How to Find Your Work Groove After the Holidays

Happy New Year! This past holiday was fantastic, and we have so much to look forward to this year. Black History Month, Women’s History Month, and spring are right around the corner, but in the meantime, things can feel a little blah as we try to adjust and get back into the swing of things. Exiting the holiday season to go back to business as usual can be challenging for many. Here are some tips on how to find your work groove after the holidays.

Prepare

Getting back into the groove of work does not have to begin your first day back. Consider preparing mentally and do whatever it takes to make things easier for you. Preparing your clothes and lunch beforehand and adjusting back into your sleep routine can help you adjust from vacation to workweek mode.

Reestablish Your Routine

Reestablishing your work routine is a great way to get back into your work groove. This can be done immediately after the holidays, or as noted above, you can begin to reestablish some aspects of your work routine before returning to work.

Ease Your Way Back In

Ease your way back into work. Consider doing the light work first to get your wheels turning. Do not pressure yourself. As you regain momentum, you can proceed to do some heavy lifting.

Get Organized

Organizing your tasks will help you get back into the groove of work. Sometimes work can be overwhelming and hard to cope with, especially after returning from vacation or the holiday season.

Here are some tips on how to get back into the groove after the holidays.

Make Time for Yourself Throughout the Week

Sometimes it is hard for us to adjust and get back into the groove of work because the holidays are the only times we get to rest, spend time with family, and do fun things. On average, companies offering paid time off give their employees 10 PTO days a year, but more than 50% of those workers are less likely to use all their days.

If you are one of the people who do not use their PTO days, we encourage you to use them. We also encourage you to make time for yourself throughout the workweek so you are not waiting until the holidays to relax and enjoy yourself.

Make Plans for Fun Activities

This point goes hand in hand with the point above. It is one thing to make time for yourself during the week, but it is another to be intentional. Sometimes we may take a day off or make time for ourselves after work, but we never intentionally plan something fun. Be intentional about your well-being. Refrain from allowing your day or after-work-hours time to go to waste. Look up fun activities for you to engage in. Take a fun class, go to the movies or dinner, etc. Make sure your calendar is not only filled with things you have to do for work but make sure there are some things you want to do for yourself on there.

Getting back into the groove of work can be tricky, but ease your way in without so much pressure. We hope the tips above helped. For more tips, be sure to subscribe below, and as always, we are here for you.
